I started riding on a Honda 50c back in the early 80’s for 1 summer. Unfortunately the bike broke down and I was to young to fix it. My next biking evolution was Mountain biking. I had a 6 year stint where it was all about the drops and skinnies. Through all that, I was and avid camper and totally into the 4x4 scene, building up Suzuki Samurais with 35” tires and also owning a 63 Unimog. To further the out door experience Claude and I purchased 2 Rokons. “Rokon” you say? These are 172cc lawnmower motors on a 2 wheel drive balloon tire bikes. They work on a Snowmobile clutch system, Give gas and it will go! With the Rokon, it gave me a different look on the riding experience. Riding was all about the now and being in the moment of what ever surrounds you. You notice more on a bike as you travel via it being sight, smells or elements. The next step up was to get a real bike. Claude said “you should buy one!” I liked the idea but my wife didn’t. After lots of convincing and lots of help from Tracy, I got the green light to get one. Last year was my first riding season. I started with a BMW 2001 Lowered 650 GS, took the road test and passed. I then thought, since this is so much fun that I should involve my wife. This would worked 2 fold. It would be great to ride together and I would be able to upgrade to a new BMW 2007 650 Dakar. Unfortunately my wife was not totally comfortable with the riding idea just yet and the friends that she had in listed to take the motorcycle course bailed. I later had to sell the 650. One day soon I will convince her.

So here we are today with me on the Dakar and my second season and ready to ride, “That’s Spot on!”
