I started riding when I was 12 on a Suzuki TS-50, raced motocross for a number of years and then stopped for some reason though I seem to remember that it had something to do with girls and cars.

Thirty plus years later I get back on a dirt bike and wonder why the heck I ever quite! Bought my Dakar in March 2007 and entered it in the Desert 100 Dual Sport ride in April. That's when I learned that riding a heavy bike off-road in the mud can be as TLGreen put's it "Slightly Technical". It was a good learning experience, I promptly purchased knobbies the next week and managed to put 12,000 miles on the Dakar commuting 20 miles daily and riding the trails and forestry roads in and around King County Washington. I plan to put double that mileage on the Dakar this year!

For my birthday last year I bought a like new 2005 KTM 400 EXC. What a great bike! It's been great riding the single track of Walker Valley and Reiter ORV parks and look forward to riding it at the Desert 100 this year. Though the KTM is street legal I intend to ride the Ironman Poker Run rather than the Dual Sport this year since my nephew and new riding buddy Holden is working on getting his endorsement for street riding but won't have it in time for the Desert 100.

I love the sense of freedom that I feel while riding and realize that I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to visit the sites we visit while Adventure Riding, places that most people will never see!
